Asset Labels for Utilities and Infrastructure: Built for Long-Term Identification

8 September 2026 by Mel

From electrical equipment and water infrastructure to telecommunications, transport assets, control panels and site equipment, clear identification plays an important role in maintenance, inspections, asset records and day-to-day operations.

When a label is placed on infrastructure, it needs to remain readable over the life of the asset.

Identification That Supports Maintenance and Records

Utility and infrastructure assets are often spread across different locations, sites and service areas. A durable asset label can help teams quickly identify what they are working on and connect each item to the right record.

Labels can include:

  • Asset numbers
  • Serial numbers
  • Barcodes and QR codes
  • Location or site details
  • Safety and warning information
  • Compliance details
  • Maintenance or inspection references
  • Company or project branding

For large networks of equipment, consistent labelling can make inspections, servicing and asset management more organised.

Made for Outdoor and Industrial Conditions

Infrastructure labels may be exposed to sun, rain, heat, cleaning, chemicals, dust, abrasion or general handling.

Miller’s Photo Anodised Aluminium labels are designed for long-term readability. The print is embedded into the aluminium and sealed within the anodised layer, helping protect important information from UV exposure, weather, chemicals, heat and wear.

For heavier-duty applications, Stainless Steel tags and plates are also available where extra strength is required.

Labels for Different Infrastructure Applications

Miller can manufacture custom labels, tags and plates for a range of utility and infrastructure uses, including:

  • Electrical equipment labels
  • Water and wastewater asset labels
  • Telecommunications equipment tags
  • Transport and rail asset labels
  • Control panel and switchboard labels
  • Compliance plates
  • Warning and instruction labels
  • Barcode and QR code asset labels
  • Sequentially numbered metal tags

Labels can be supplied with industrial-strength adhesive backing, fixing holes or both, depending on the surface, location and fixing requirements.
