Miller Metal Imaging meet your needs with a superior photo anodising process. Unlike other printing processes where the image is printed 'on top' of the substrate, our durability is achieved because the image is embedded into the aluminium. The aluminium used is the highest quality and is manufactured specifically for our process. The photo-anodising provides a consistent depth of 20 microns into the surface of the metal, resulting in rich colour and image definition with unparalleled durability.

Photo Imaging Process

The following illustrations demonstrate the stages of our unique photo imaging process.

The Metal

This is a close-up of the pores in the surface of our aluminium. We source the very best aluminium alloy from the world's leading mills. This sheet metal is anodised in laboratory conditions to provide a consistent pore depth. The result is an anodised layer that is deeper (20 microns) and more stable than any other source.

Photographic Images

Here the metal has been dyed and the pores are filled with the colours that make up the image. Miller Metal Imaging produce true photographic images with 300 d.p.i (150 l.p.i) resolution. Whether you need full colour, black & white, sepia or special duotone effect, the image is equal to offset printing. Photos are sharper than screen printed process (not 'dotty') and clearer than digital imaged aluminium (which have poor registration and course resolution). Miller Metal Imaging photos have natural colours and flesh tones - 'true' photo imaging!

Durability

Immediately after the image is produced into the metal, it goes through a thermo/chemical sealing process. This step locks the image in the metal and creates an anodic layer which seals the surface of the aluminium. This final part of the process renders the product highly resistant to sunlight (UV), salt spray, extreme heat, chemicals, fungi, general environmental degradation (rain, wind, dust, atmospheric pollution) and graffiti.

Cleaning & Graffiti Removal

Mould or Mildew
 Wash sign with warm soapy water, rinse with clean water. Do Not use Abrasive Cleaners or Caustic based products.
Marker-pen Graffiti Wipe down with Methylated Spirits until all graffiti is removed, rinse with clean water.
 Do Not use Paint stripper, Acetone or Abrasive cleaners.
Paint Graffiti Wipe down with Mineral Turpentine until all graffiti is removed, rinse with clean water.
 Do Not use Paint stripper, Acetone or Abrasive cleaners.
Aerosol Graffiti Wipe down with Mineral Turpentine until all graffiti is removed, rinse with clean water.
 Do Not use Paint stripper, Acetone or Abrasive cleaners.
Stickers Soften sticker with warm soapy water, peel of and Remove any residue with with warm soapy water or Mineral Turpentine, rinse with clean water. Do Not use Sharp objects or paint stripper, Acetone or Abrasive cleaners.

 


File Requirements for printing

Printing onto Photo anodised aluminium is unlike most other printing proccesses and as such print files have specific requirments. If you are intending to supply artwork to Miller Metal Imaging for print we suggest you read our File Check List of requirments.
